Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, has officially declared his intention to run in the 2027 presidential election, ending months of speculation. In a live session on X (formerly Twitter), he expressed readiness to serve a single four-year term to help reposition Nigeria.
He dismissed rumors of a possible alliance with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, emphasizing his focus on coalitions aimed at addressing issues like poverty, insecurity, and bad governance. Obi pledged a campaign centered on non-violence, transparency, and accountability, ensuring that votes count and are protected.
Obi outlined his priorities for his first 100 days in office, including security, education, and poverty eradication, alongside a commitment to reduce governance costs and combat corruption. He also addressed the Labour Party’s internal crisis, aiming for recognition of the Nenadi Usman-led leadership by INEC.
Criticizing President Bola Tinubu for his extended holiday abroad, Obi highlighted the need for leadership accountability as the 2027 elections approach. His announcement signals a renewed challenge to the political status quo in Nigeria.
