The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) is partnering with COREN to improve engineering systems and disaster response in Abuja. FEMD’s Acting Director General, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed met COREN Registrar Prof. Okorie Uche, citing overloading and missing weighbridges as causes of frequent tanker crashes.

“COREN needs to tighten rules to prevent disasters like road crashes or dam failures,” Mohammed said. Uche promised technical support to ensure safety.

FEMD also plans to work with Ex-Junior Airmen (Ex-JAM) as volunteers. “Their training can help us mitigate disasters,” Mohammed told Ex-JAM’s Michael Musa.

Meanwhile, a trailer crash at Charly Boy Junction on Monday caused hours-long traffic jams from Dutse to Galadimawa. No deaths were reported, but clearing the wreck may take time due to rush-hour congestion.
