The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has kicked off the second round of its National Immunization Plus Days campaign, aiming to vaccinate over 200,000 children under the age of five across the FCT.

This follows the success of the first round in May 2025, which recorded 100% coverage.

The flag-off event, themed “Integrated Flag-off for the Big Catch (Round 2), June 2025”, was held on Thursday, June 26 at the Etsu Kwali’s Palace.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary of the FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat, said the campaign will run from June 26 to July 3, and aims to build on the success of the first phase.

She noted that vaccines help protect children from diseases like polio, measles, and diphtheria, and are key to reducing child deaths.

“While we are proud of our 100% coverage, we must do even more to reach every child,” Dr. Fasawe said.

She thanked partners like WHO, UNICEF, CHAI, and NPHCDA for their support, and praised traditional rulers for helping the campaign reach more communities.

WHO FCT Coordinator, Dr. Kumshida Yakubu Balami, said WHO is helping coordinate the campaign in all six area councils and has trained health workers to support the exercise.

Traditional leaders at the event, including the Emir of Jiwa, Dr. Idris Musa, and the Etsu of Kwali, HRH Ayedoo Luka Nizassan, promised full support. They encouraged parents to bring their children for vaccination, stressing that a healthy child is key to a healthy society.

Dr. Aboyowa Edukugho from AFENET also praised the FCTA for its efforts and called for more attention to underserved areas.

The FCTA is urging all parents and guardians to make sure their children are vaccinated during the campaign.
