Abuja, Nigeria – April 7, 2025
In a significant move to enhance maternal healthcare and reduce maternal mortality rates, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration has officially declared a free health insurance scheme and caesarean section services for all pregnant women residing in the FCT.
The initiative, unveiled by the FCT Minister during a press briefing in Abuja, is part of the administration’s broader efforts to make quality healthcare accessible to vulnerable groups, especially expectant mothers.
“This program ensures that no woman within the FCT will be denied quality care during childbirth due to financial constraints,” the Minister stated. “Our goal is to promote safe deliveries and healthy mothers through timely medical intervention, including free caesarean sections when necessary.”
The health insurance package will cover essential antenatal and postnatal services, routine medications, and emergency interventions. Health officials have been directed to work closely with community leaders and health centers to identify and register eligible beneficiaries without delay.
Residents and healthcare stakeholders have lauded the move, calling it a bold step toward universal health coverage and a safer future for mothers and children in the capital.
The FCT Administration encourages all pregnant women to visit the nearest primary healthcare center to enroll in the scheme and access the free services.
