Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) officials on Friday locked down the upscale Efab Metropolis Estate over an alleged ₦600 million unpaid tenement rate.
The 8 a.m. enforcement left top residents, including federal lawmakers and retired Supreme Court Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, stranded as vehicles were barred from leaving or entering. Only the pedestrian gate was kept open.
Estate managers protested the move, insisting they had not been properly served. The deadlock was eventually broken after talks involving the trapped legislator and Justice Galumje.
AMAC’s tax coordinator, Dr. Alewa Akawu Nasiru, defended the action as legally backed, while Justice Galumje urged compliance, warning property owners to respect judicial rulings.
The incident underscores AMAC’s aggressive tax collection drive, with more high-value estates in Abuja likely to face similar crackdowns.
