The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has suspended two ValueJet pilots for initiating takeoff without clearance at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba reportedly ignored radio communications from the control tower and proceeded with takeoff, breaching standard air traffic protocols and endangering safety.
The NCAA, after an investigation, described the act as a serious safety violation. It said the pilots’ licenses have been suspended pending further disciplinary action.
The Authority reaffirmed its zero tolerance for breaches of aviation regulations and warned that flight safety remains paramount.
ValueJet is yet to issue a formal statement, though internal investigations are reportedly underway.
