The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that the Abuja–Kaduna passenger train service will resume next week, weeks after it was suspended following the August 26 incident.

In a statement, NRC’s Deputy Director of Public Relations, Yakub Mahmood Unyimadu, assured commuters that extensive safety checks have been carried out on both the railway infrastructure and rolling stock to meet global safety standards.

Unyimadu revealed that the corporation has already refunded 512 of the 583 passengers affected by the disruption, with efforts ongoing to settle the remaining passengers. He stressed that passenger safety, comfort, and satisfaction remain the NRC’s top priorities.

He further appreciated the support of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, security agencies, the media, and other stakeholders during the suspension period, noting that details of the official restart date and timetable will be released soon.

The Abuja–Kaduna rail line is one of Nigeria’s busiest train corridors, serving as a safer and faster alternative to road travel for thousands of daily commuters.
