FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, has ordered an immediate crackdown on illegal mining and other security threats across Abuja.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Saka Adewale, disclosed this after a Security Committee meeting on August 5, noting that illegal mining poses serious risks and must be halted.
The Committee also addressed issues like illegal IDP camps, street begging, shanties, and traffic offences. Wike directed security agencies to clear miscreants and restore order across the city.
As part of “Operation Sweep,” 273 destitutes have been taken off the streets and 670 vehicles impounded for various violations. Drug suspects were handed over to the NDLEA.
On the recent Gwagwalada farmer-herder clash, the CP said peace has been restored and stakeholders have signed an agreement to prevent further violence.
