The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), under Minister Nyesom Wike, is carrying out sweeping reforms in Abuja’s healthcare sector in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Mandate Secretary for Health Services, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, said the administration is driving a “health infrastructure revolution,” with projects including fully functional oxygen plants in major hospitals and a new 20-bed Vesico-Vaginal Fistula (VVF) Centre.

Rural medical outreaches have also delivered free surgeries and consultations to thousands.

The FCT Health Insurance Scheme (FHIS) has seen a major boost after debt clearance, tripling enrollment and exceeding federal targets. Vulnerable groups now benefit from free enrollment through a special fund.

To strengthen healthcare delivery, 315 new health workers have been approved for recruitment, while salary arrears have been paid and the nursing school upgraded to a college.

Residency pass rates have improved by 60%, and new public health initiatives like mandatory hepatitis screening for food vendors are underway. Hospitals are also being equipped with renewable energy for more reliable service.
