The Nigeria Governors’ Forum, in partnership with UBEC and NewGlobe, has declared a national education emergency over rising numbers of out-of-school children and poor foundational learning.
At a workshop held Thursday in Abuja, NGF Chairman and Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq revealed that 66% of primary-aged children are not in school, while many enrolled students lack basic reading and math skills.
UBEC and NewGlobe leaders highlighted structural challenges and warned that without urgent reforms, millions of children risk falling into lifelong poverty.
The forum called for stronger collaboration, more funding, and data-driven reforms to fix the education system.
