The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said that Peter Obi and Nasir El-Rufai are free to remain in their current political parties the Labour Party (LP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This comes as a response to growing speculation that the ADC was preparing to bring both politicians into its fold. But speaking over the phone, the party’s interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, explained that their continued membership in LP and SDP is in line with broader plans to form a strong political alliance.

According to Abdullahi, the ADC is currently focused on building a united front that can pose a real challenge to the ruling parties in 2027. The goal, he said, is to bring together like-minded politicians and parties who share similar values and visions for the country.

During a recent party meeting in Abuja, ADC’s interim National Chairman, David Mark, also addressed members with a firm message. He warned that there would be no room for disloyalty or double dealings within the party. “You’re either fully with us or not at all,” he said.

Still, the party emphasized that allowing Obi and El-Rufai to stay in their respective parties isn’t a contradiction. Instead, it’s a calculated move that fits into the bigger picture one that aims to reshape Nigeria’s political future through cooperation, not conflict.
