Abuja, Nigeria – May 6, 2025
A major traffic diversion is underway in Abuja’s Central Business District as the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) begins construction of a key interchange bridge along the Inner Southern Expressway (ISEX).
The affected area stretches from Herbert Macaulay Way, just past the Abuja International Conference Centre (AICC), to the National Defence College junction, with another chokepoint at the intersection of Herbert Macaulay Way and Moshood Abiola Road.
To maintain flow, traffic is now rerouted through Zakaria Maimalari Street, passing between Chelsea Hotel and Access Bank, near the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) office, and rejoining Moshood Abiola Road close to the AICC.
Despite the disruption, the FCDA has assured residents that all properties in the construction zone will remain accessible. Traffic personnel from the DRTS, Police, and FRSC have been deployed to manage movement and assist commuters.
Engr. R.Y. Dauda, FNSE, speaking on behalf of the FCDA, appealed for public understanding, stressing that the project will significantly ease congestion and improve long-term mobility within the capital.
The new bridge is part of broader efforts by the FCDA to upgrade Abuja’s infrastructure and prepare for future urban expansion.
