The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Sports Department is mourning the loss of one of its most dedicated staff members, Bosede Momoh, who passed away on Easter Monday at the National Hospital, Abuja, after a period of illness.
In a statement, the Director of Sports, Luka Istifanus, described Momoh as “an exceptional figure in Nigerian refereeing and a committed sports administrator whose legacy will continue to inspire.”
“Bosede was more than just a colleague — she was a mentor, a leader, and a beacon of integrity in the officiating and sports community,” Istifanus said. “Her contributions to the growth of sports, especially martial arts in the FCT, were impactful and lasting.”
Until her death, Bosede Momoh served as the officer in charge of karate and taekwondo at the FCT Sports Department. In this role, she worked tirelessly to develop martial arts, nurture young talents, and promote discipline and excellence among athletes.
Momoh earned her FIFA badge in 2009 and officiated at several major tournaments, including the Africa Women’s Championship. She retired from active refereeing in 2020 after more than a decade of distinguished service nationally and internationally.
After her retirement, she remained active in football as a referee assessor in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and was a key figure in the FCT Referees Council. She also played an important role in the National Physical Fitness Instructors group, frequently participating in pre-season fitness programs in Abuja.
“She inspired young referees and athletes alike. Her compassionate and disciplined approach made her a role model to many,” Istifanus added.
The FCT Sports Department, along with the wider Nigerian sports community, extends heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues. Bosede Momoh will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on.
