Abuja, Nigeria – April 8, 2025

Tragedy struck in Abuja, a stray bullet allegedly fired from a VIP convoy killed a passerby.

The victim, Timothy John, lived in Dutse Baupma. He was walking along the road when the convoy passed and began firing into the air.

The shooting happened shortly after a serious road accident. A DAF trailer truck had crashed into five tricycles. The crash caused heavy traffic and panic in the area.

To clear the road, security personnel in the VIP convoy reportedly started shooting into the air. One of the bullets allegedly hit Timothy John in the chest.

He was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.

A security source, Zagazola Makama, shared details of the incident on his X (formerly Twitter) handle.

He said the shooting caused more panic. Several commuters were injured. Two others, hurt in the earlier crash, later died.

Zagazola added that the original crash happened around 6:50 pm. The truck reportedly lost its brakes before hitting the tricycles. Eight people were injured and taken to the hospital.

However, the focus has now shifted to the gunfire from the VIP convoy. Many Nigerians are questioning the conduct of the convoy’s security team. So far, those involved have not been identified.

When contacted, FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said investigations are still ongoing.

“We are unable to identify them; we are still investigating,” she said.

The body of Timothy John has been taken to Kubwa General Hospital. An autopsy is expected.
