The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has reiterated its commitment to increasing food production across the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda,’ which aims to eliminate hunger and ensure food security across the nation.

The Mandate Secretary of the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, FCTA, Lawan Kolo Geidam, made this assurance while receiving an honorary Doctorate Degree of Philosophy in Leadership and Corporate Governance from Wisdom University of Science and Technology, United States of America (USA), Nigeria Centre, in Abuja.

Geidam expressed his gratitude for the recognition and dedicated the honor to President Tinubu, attributing the achievement to the President’s unwavering support. He emphasized that without the President’s commitment, the Secretariat’s strides in food security would not have gained significant attention.

“I am dedicating this honor to the President because he has actually made this award a reality. Despite challenges, the President has been supportive, and I cannot claim ownership of this award without recognizing his resilient efforts,” Geidam stated.

He further noted that the award serves as a motivation for the leadership of the Secretariat to continue and expand upon the initiatives that have brought about this recognition.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Executive Director of the African Centre for Civil Social Justice and Good Governance, Dr. Bashir Ahmad, praised Geidam’s transformative efforts in the agricultural sector. Ahmad acknowledged that these efforts align with the national goal of achieving food security and enhancing rural development.

“Your commitment to empowering farmers and vulnerable groups exemplifies leadership worthy of recognition and emulation. It is no wonder this prestigious institution has found you deserving of this honor,” Ahmad remarked.

He further highlighted that the recommendation of Geidam for the honorary Doctorate Degree was based on his substantial contributions to societal development and agricultural reforms in the FCT. Ahmad also emphasized Geidam’s role in modernizing the ‘Farmer Support Programme’ in the FCT, championing climate-resilient agriculture, and implementing transformative governance blueprints. These efforts have attracted national and international recognition, including the endorsement by Wisdom University of Science and Technology.

The FCTA’s renewed focus on agriculture and rural development is expected to enhance food security, improve farmers’ livelihoods, and contribute significantly to President Tinubu’s broader agenda of economic revitalization and social development.
