FCT-IRS Collects N262 Billion in Taxes from Abuja Residents in 2024
Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has announced that it generated a total of N262 billion in tax revenue from Abuja residents in 2024, surpassing its initial revenue target of N250 billion.
The announcement was made by the Acting Executive Chairman of FCT-IRS, Michael Ango, during a tax sensitization campaign aimed at encouraging voluntary compliance. He emphasized that the revenue success was due to increased taxpayer compliance, improved enforcement mechanisms, and enhanced digital tax payment platforms.
“This achievement is a reflection of the commitment of Abuja residents to fulfilling their tax obligations. It also highlights the efficiency of our tax administration system,” Ango stated.
To further improve tax collection and make services more accessible, FCT-IRS has announced plans to establish tax service kiosks in major plazas and markets across Abuja. These kiosks will allow residents to easily access tax-related services, making compliance more convenient.
Additionally, the agency has vowed to take strict action against defaulters who fail to meet their tax obligations. Legal measures, including criminal prosecutions, may be pursued to ensure compliance and increase revenue for infrastructural development.
The N262 billion collected in 2024 includes revenues from personal income tax, capital gains tax, stamp duties, and other levies. The funds will be used to support various infrastructure projects, public services, and development initiatives within the Federal Capital Territory.
With an impressive N43.8 billion already collected in January 2025, the FCT-IRS remains optimistic about sustaining this momentum in the coming months, ensuring steady revenue growth for the capital’s development.
