Panic is spreading across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as criminals masquerading as commercial drivers continue to unleash violent “one-chance” attacks on unsuspecting commuters.
Incidents have surged in areas such as Wuse, Lugbe, Kubwa, Gwarinpa, and Apo, where victims report being robbed, physically assaulted, and forcefully ejected from moving vehicles.
These attacks are often carried out during peak commuting hours, sometimes even in broad daylight, adding to public anxiety.
The FCT Police Command has acknowledged the growing threat. Speaking on Saturday, July 19, 2025, Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh confirmed that security patrols have been strengthened and intelligence operations are actively targeting the syndicates behind the crimes.
Numerous victims have lost valuables including phones and money, while others have suffered injuries, prompting widespread concern.
Security analysts have urged residents to steer clear of unmarked or private vehicles and are calling for tighter regulation of the city’s transport system.
With the situation deteriorating, residents are appealing to the FCT Minister and relevant security forces to take swift and decisive action to ensure the safety of commuters across the capital.
