An 11-year-old almajiri boy, Nura Bala, has sadly drowned in a river at Gada-Biyu village in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to a resident, Suleiman Bello, the incident happened when Nura and two other boys went swimming. They reportedly jumped into the river from a bridge, but Nura didn’t come back up. The other boys ran home to alert adults, who quickly mobilized to search for him.
His body was eventually found around 6:12 p.m. by local fishermen and has since been buried.
Another resident, Malam Muazu, said the community has witnessed similar tragedies before. “Two boys drowned in that same river last year. Now another almajiri boy has died in the same way,” he said, adding that parents have constantly warned their children to stay away from the river.
The FCT Police Command said the matter was not officially reported to the nearest police station.
