Police in Abuja have arrested a man believed to be the leader of a robbery and kidnapping gang that has been troubling the city and nearby areas.

The arrest happened early Saturday morning, June 28, during a regular patrol by officers from the Garki Police Division near the Area 8 Banking Arena.

Police stopped two suspicious vehicles—a Toyota 4Runner SUV and a Toyota Corolla. When the occupants of the Corolla saw the police, two of them jumped out and ran away, leaving the car behind.

The driver of the SUV, later identified as Chukwudi Nwodu, 35 years old, refused to cooperate with the police. After a short struggle, he was arrested.

When the police searched his SUV, they found several dangerous items, including a sharp axe, poisonous spear, combat knife, black face mask, three walkie-talkies, and a military-style beret. These items suggest the group may have been planning violent crimes or pretending to be security officers.

Police are now looking for the two suspects who escaped and are questioning Nwodu to learn more about the gang’s activities. They believe the group may be linked to recent cases of robbery and kidnapping in Abuja.

The police say this arrest is an important step toward stopping crime and making the city safer.
