A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Wuse, Abuja, has sentenced a 23-year-old man, Victor Daniel, to four days of community service for stealing a motorcycle.
The presiding Magistrate, Ekpeyong Inyang, ordered Daniel to clean the court premises for three hours each day over the four-day sentence.
In addition to the community service, Daniel must pay N750,000 in compensation to the victim, Mr. Christian Maneke. If he fails to pay, he will spend seven months in prison instead.
Daniel was charged with conspiracy and theft. He pleaded guilty and begged the court for mercy.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Donatus Abah, told the court that Daniel was hired in March by Swifta Logistics Express Services Limited as a dispatch rider and was given an Avatar motorcycle for work.
Instead, Daniel reportedly conspired with another man, Timothy Jerry, and sold the motorcycle for N400,000.
The theft was reported to the FCT Police Command on March 26, leading to Daniel’s arrest and trial.
