Residents of Nyanya community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have accused some officials of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) of plotting to take over their remaining ancestral land.

In a statement on Monday, the community chairman, Chief Enoch Jiyaba, said the move goes against the inclusive policies of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who has made efforts to involve Abuja natives in governance.

Chief Jiyaba praised the minister’s leadership but expressed concern that certain FCDA officials were undermining his vision.

“Our ancestors farmed this land for over 100 years. We’ve already been relocated from places like Abacha Barracks, Kugbo, and NAF Valley. The little land we have left for homes must not be taken,” he said.

The community, made up mostly of displaced farmers, said they have long faced forced evictions in the name of development and called on the federal government, civil society groups, and well-meaning Nigerians to intervene.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to peace while urging authorities to protect their rights and prevent further encroachment.
