An environmental expert has warned of an impending disease outbreak in FCT slum communities, calling on Minister Nyesom Wike to urgently intervene as 60% of Abuja’s population lives in underserved neighborhoods.

The expert recommended implementing the original Abuja Master Plan, which outlined infrastructure for satellite towns that should have been built before the population surge.

Mpape District Head Musa El-Fada highlighted his community’s dire conditions despite its contribution to Abuja’s construction sector through stone and sand supply.

“We are suffering. There’s no potable water or good roads. Residents buy water from trucks at ₦2,000 per truck during power outages,” El-Fada said.

The densely populated area, home to construction workers and middle-income earners, has only a small health centre inadequate for its growing population and no general hospital for critical needs.

Though not captured in the Abuja Master Plan, El-Fada insists Mpape’s large population and strategic location demand urgent government attention to prevent a public health crisis.
