The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has praised the growing impact of women in shaping the educational landscape across Nigeria, particularly within the FCT.

Speaking at an education-focused event held at the Abuja International Conference Centre, Mahmoud emphasized the pivotal role women play in nurturing talent, mentoring students, and driving academic excellence at various levels of the educational system.

“Women are not only pillars in our homes, they are the foundation of learning in our classrooms,” she said. “Their dedication as teachers, administrators, and advocates continues to uplift our education sector and shape the minds of future leaders.”

She called for greater investment in policies that support female educators and promote gender equity in education leadership roles. Mahmoud also highlighted the importance of inclusive education models that recognize and develop a wide range of student talents — from academics to arts, science, and leadership.

The minister encouraged educational institutions to implement mentorship programs and provide platforms for young girls to thrive, especially in fields traditionally dominated by men.

Her remarks were warmly received by participants, including school leaders, students, civil society groups, and education stakeholders who commended her commitment to empowering women and strengthening the education system in the FCT.

The event also featured performances, exhibitions, and panel discussions focused on creativity, innovation, and youth development through education.
