Angry youths in Benue State shut down the Abuja-Makurdi expressway on Sunday, demanding immediate government intervention following the latest massacre in their communities.

The protesters, dressed in black and carrying placards with palm fronds, completely blocked the major highway, stranding travelers for hours in a demonstration they described as a desperate cry for help.

The protest was triggered by a fresh attack in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area, where suspected armed herders allegedly killed over 200 people within 24 hours. The shocking massacre served as the final straw for the demonstrators.

Despite earlier warnings from the Benue State Government against unauthorized protests due to rising tensions, the frustrated youths proceeded with their action, citing repeated attacks and lack of justice.

“We’re tired of watching our people slaughtered like animals while leaders issue statements without action,” one protester told NewsPro. “We are not leaving this road until we see a real response. Enough is enough.”

The highway blockade highlights the growing anger and desperation among Benue residents who feel abandoned by authorities. The demonstrators are calling on the federal government to take decisive action to end the persistent violence and protect vulnerable communities across the state.

The protest underscores the escalating security crisis in Benue and the mounting pressure on both state and federal authorities to provide concrete solutions beyond mere condemnation statements.
