Protesters to gather at 8am on June 12 to demand accountability from Tinubu administration
The Take It Back Movement has designated Eagle Square as the convergence point for its planned Democracy Day protest in Abuja, set to begin at 8:00 a.m. on June 12.
The demonstration aims to highlight economic hardship, insecurity, and what organizers call shrinking civic space under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
National Coordinator Juwon Sanyaolu said the group chose Democracy Day to demand accountability and good governance from the current government.
“June 12 is a symbolic day for democracy, and we are using it to call for accountability and good governance,” Sanyaolu stated on Monday.
He accused the Tinubu administration of failing its constitutional responsibility to ensure citizens’ security and welfare while restricting freedom of expression.
“Freedom of speech is under serious threat. Critics and opposition voices are being hunted down. This protest is our way of reclaiming the civic space,” he said.
Sanyaolu warned security agencies against suppressing the demonstration, emphasizing peaceful protest as a constitutional right.
“The right to peaceful protest is enshrined in the Constitution and affirmed by the Supreme Court. Security agencies must protect, not attack, protesters,” he declared.
The movement’s demands center on improved governance, economic relief, enhanced security, and protection of democratic freedoms.
