Residents of Kpaduma, a community near Abuja’s Asokoro District, have urged the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, to protect their cultural heritage as development continues in the area.
Baba Yerima, the community’s Secretary and Madaki, praised the minister for consulting local leaders but insisted that displaced families must be relocated within their ancestral land.
“Our ancestors are buried here,” he said. “We have identified a suitable site for resettlement within our land, and anything less is unacceptable.”
The community’s youth leader also stressed that while they welcome development, it should not come at the cost of their identity.
“We support progress, but we don’t want our heritage erased. We seek inclusion, not displacement,” he added.
The people of Kpaduma believe that preserving their roots alongside development is essential for sustainable and respectful growth in the area.
