Residents of the Federal Capital Territory have appealed to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to urgently tackle the rising insecurity and deteriorating infrastructure within estates across Abuja.
The call was made during a recent leadership election held at EFAB City Estate in Lokogoma, where residents voted for new executives to help address key challenges facing the community.
Victor Friday, the Acting Chairman of the estate, explained that the community had partnered with nearby estates and neighborhoods in Lokogoma to strengthen security following recent threats.
Chairperson of the Electoral Committee, Ada Bassey, said the election was necessary due to the increasing issues affecting the estate. She called on the Minister to repair access roads and address frequent flooding by fixing damaged bridges and improving the drainage system.
Another resident, Mrs. Bimbo Okpere, highlighted the need for better sanitation and stronger community involvement in tackling social challenges, noting that the government cannot handle everything alone.
Legal adviser to the estate’s Residents and Landlords Association, Andrew Eche, expressed confidence in the newly elected leaders. He said the quality of the candidates offers hope for improved organization and effective management of the estate.
