The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has begun regulating the gaming and lottery industry in Abuja to harness its economic potential and increase revenue.

Director General of the FCT Lottery Regulatory Office, Lanre Gbajabiamila, announced this at a joint press conference with the FCT Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) on Wednesday. He said the move follows a Supreme Court ruling affirming FCTA’s authority to oversee gaming activities within the capital.

Gbajabiamila stated that the directive from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike aims to prevent revenue loss while promoting responsible gaming and investor confidence. He assured existing operators that their licenses remain valid and that the transition will be smooth.

FCT-IRS Acting Executive Chairman, Michael Ango, added that the gaming industry could attract investment and boost tourism in Abuja. He urged operators to engage with the FCT-Lottery Regulatory Office as the initiative kicks off.
