As the 22nd National Sports Festival kicks off in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Team FCT is gearing up with confidence and determination to win big and raise the Federal Capital Territory’s profile in Nigerian sports.
With strong backing from the FCT Administration, the team heads to the festival well-prepared and highly motivated. FCT Director of Sports, Luka Istifanus, said the team is ready to deliver a strong performance, noting that recent rewards given to past medalists by the FCT Minister have boosted morale.
Deputy Director of Sports Development, Iyiola Ogundele, confirmed that Team FCT will compete in 27 sports, aiming to break past records. He said young athletes who impressed at the last National Youth Games in Asaba are also part of the squad, gaining experience as “International Junior Athletes.”
FCT Badminton Coach, Jones Adakole, said eight of the territory’s youth champions—dubbed “the Invincibles”—will compete in Abeokuta, bringing the same energy that earned them five gold medals at the 2024 Youth Games.
The opening ceremony of the festival is set for Sunday, May 18, with Team FCT ready to make its mark.
