The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has commended the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration for its renewed efforts to eliminate malaria in the capital.
At the 2025 World Malaria Day event in Abuja, Dr. Emeka Ayogu, Chairman of the NMA FCT chapter, highlighted the strong leadership of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat. He stated, “They are doing an excellent job tackling malaria at the household and community levels.”
Dr. Ayogu praised the FCTA’s initiatives to reinvest in healthcare, rethink malaria strategies, and strengthen their commitment to ending the disease.
The event, organized by the Health Services and Environment Secretariat, offered free malaria testing and treatment, educated residents on prevention, and promoted access to free malaria services.
Dr. Fasawe noted that the FCT Malaria Elimination Programme and the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention drive are not only raising awareness but also mobilizing vital resources in the fight against malaria. She encouraged residents to use the free insecticide-treated nets provided and take advantage of ongoing free testing services.
Dr. Babagana Adam, Permanent Secretary of the secretariat, reaffirmed the FCTA’s commitment to fighting malaria and announced a new partnership with FAMKLIS to ensure free antimalarial drugs are available at public health facilities.
“Our gathering today shows our determination to take action against this preventable and treatable disease,” Adam emphasized, urging residents to get tested and utilize the insecticide-treated nets.
