A powerful rainstorm has once again wreaked havoc across several communities in Abuja, leaving behind a trail of destruction. The storm, which struck late Thursday evening, caused significant damage to homes, businesses, and public infrastructure, as residents struggled to come to terms with their losses.

Eyewitnesses reported that strong winds accompanied by heavy rainfall uprooted trees, tore off rooftops, and disrupted electricity supply in multiple areas. Some roads were rendered impassable due to flooding, with residents forced to wade through water to reach their homes.

“We’ve lost everything,” said one resident of Lugbe, whose household items were destroyed when the roof of his apartment was blown off. Another affected resident from Kubwa noted that local markets also suffered damage, with vendors losing valuable goods.

Emergency response teams have begun assessing the damage, while authorities urged residents to take safety precautions during the rainy season. The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has assured the public that efforts are underway to provide support and restore affected areas.

This is the second major rainstorm to hit Abuja in recent weeks, raising concerns about the city’s disaster preparedness and the need for improved drainage systems and infrastructure resilience.
