Eleven-year-old Amazing-Grace Salami of Greenpath Preparatory School, Abuja, has won the Spelling Bee In Nigeria contest, defeating 633 finalists from Abuja, Lagos, Osun, and Taraba States.

She secured victory by correctly spelling the word “Melange” at the grand finale, held at the Lagos residence of U.S. Consul General JoEllen Gorg. As the winner, she will represent Nigeria at the 100th Scripps National Spelling Bee in the United States—Nigeria’s first-ever participation in the prestigious competition.

The contest, which began in September, aimed to promote literacy and critical thinking among Nigerian students. Speaking at the event, Eugenia Tachie-Menson, convener of the competition, highlighted its transformative impact, while 2022 Scripps Champion Harini Logan virtually encouraged the finalists.

Spelling Bee in Nigeria, affiliated with the Scripps National Spelling Bee, USA, provides students with essential spelling, vocabulary, and cognitive skills, preparing them for global excellence.
