PDP National Secretariat Faces Land Occupancy Termination

In a significant development for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the Federal Capital Territory Administration has officially revoked the right of occupancy for the party’s national secretariat located at Plot No. 243, Central Area, Cadastral Zone A00, Abuja.

This revocation, referenced under file No. Misc. 813146, was communicated in a letter addressed to the PDP National Chairman. The letter informs him that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has exercised his powers under the Land Use Act No. 6 of 1978, which governs land administration in Nigeria.

The decision follows numerous assessments and is part of a broader government initiative to ensure proper land use and compliance with legal frameworks. The PDP has reportedly failed to pay annual ground rent for over 20 years, from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025. This comes despite multiple publications by the FCT Administration since 2023 in national dailies and electronic media urging all allottees of plots in the Federal Capital Territory to settle outstanding payments

The letter states, “You are hereby notified that the breaches by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), National Secretariat (MISC 81346), violate the provisions of Section 28, Subsection 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act.”

The Minister further emphasized that the Federal Capital Territory Administration will take immediate possession of the party’s secretariat until all outstanding payments are resolved.

As one of Nigeria’s prominent political parties, the PDP now faces the challenge of finding a new location for its national headquarters. Political analysts suggest that this development could impact the party’s operations and its strategic activities, especially with the 2027 elections approaching.

The PDP has yet to respond officially to the revocation. As the situation unfolds, stakeholders are closely monitoring how this will affect the party’s structure and position within Nigerian politics.
