FCT Minister Wike Calls Out FCDA Boss Over Alleged Fraud in Demolition Compensation

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticized the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, for allegedly trying to cheat residents whose homes were recently demolished in Gishiri, Abuja.

Last week, about 455 people lost their homes due to demolitions carried out for a road construction project. Wike revealed that he had approved N1.3 billion to compensate the affected residents. However, he was angered to learn that the FCDA, under Dauda’s leadership, was offering far less money than what was approved.

The Minister condemned Dauda, who is from Abuja, for betraying both his own people and the government. He warned him to immediately correct the issue and ensure that the victims receive the full compensation—or risk being removed from his position.

Community leaders also accused Dauda of ignoring Wike’s relocation plan for the displaced residents. Youth leader Umaru Godwin claimed that Dauda suggested relocating them to a flood-prone area unsuitable for living. Another resident, Princess Juliet Jonah, revealed that victims were protesting because they were being offered just N72,000 per house, which they consider too low.

This situation has sparked tension in the community as residents demand fair treatment.
