The medical outreach was held at the National Hospital, Abuja (NHA).

Speaking at the closing ceremony Friday last week, the chairman of the SMO, Dr Salman Yusuf, said his organisation was committed to providing compassionate care to the underprivileged.

According to Dr Yusuf, the organisation’s mission is grounded in the belief that everyone deserves access to quality healthcare, irrespective of social or economic status.

He stated that the initiative aligns with the Islamic value of mercy and emphasised that all lives must be cared for.

“Over the years, we have treated over 13,000 individuals and invested more than N150 million in life-saving interventions.

“With a mission rooted in compassion, we focus on offering healthcare to those who need it most, especially in low-resource areas,” Dr Yusuf said.

He noted the contribution of the MAC experts who came from the United Kingdom, Pakistan and other countries and shared their skills, knowledge and expertise with their Nigerian counterparts during the six-day outreach

This knowledge transfer has strengthened our capacity and fostered a spirit of collaboration and mutual learning. I am pleased to report that our combined team, supported by the National Hospital, Abuja, successfully treated 94 patients, with some requiring multiple surgeries, leading to over 100 surgical interventions,” he said.

According to Dr Yusuf, most of the procedures were minimally invasive and they included surgeries performed for the first time in the hospital’s history.

The chairman of MAC, United Kingdom, Professor Matin Sheriff, appreciated the opportunity to carry out the surgical operations.

He explained that MAC was established in 2016 with a mission to save lives through quality medical interventions.

The Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital, Abuja, Professor Muhammad Mahmoud, commended the success of the surgeries, attributing it to the dedicated efforts of the medical team.

Professor Mahmoud praised the team for donating some of the equipment used during the operations to the hospital.

The medical outreach was held from Sunday, 16 February to Friday, 21 February, 2025, with appreciation and testimonies from the beneficiaries from various backgrounds.
