Abuja, Nigeria – February 27, 2025 – The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced new accreditation standards for schools in the Territory, requiring a minimum score of 67% in each thematic area and an overall score of at least 67% across all four areas to qualify for full accreditation.

Speaking at a one-day capacity-building program organized by the Department of Quality Assurance for personnel participating in the 18th batch of the annual Accreditation Exercise in Abuja, the Mandate Secretary of the FCT Education Secretariat, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, emphasized the importance of compliance with educational standards.

Dr. Hayyo explained that schools failing to meet the 67% threshold in one thematic area or operating from a residential or temporary site would be considered for provisional accreditation. However, institutions scoring below 67% in two or more thematic areas will be denied accreditation outright.

In his address, he urged accreditors to uphold professionalism, diligence, and impartiality throughout the exercise in alignment with the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“I encourage you to participate actively in this program, which is aimed at equipping you with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in your role as accreditation officers,” he stated.

Represented by the Director of the FCT Department of Mass Education, Dr. Favour Edem-Nse, Hayyo reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to ensuring ideal learning environments. He noted that under the leadership of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, significant efforts are being made to enhance educational infrastructure and academic advancement in the Territory.

The Director of the Department of Quality Assurance, Mrs. Hajarat Titilayo Alayande, also reiterated the administration’s commitment to improving education quality in the FCT, assuring that no efforts would be spared in achieving this goal.

The accreditation exercise aims to maintain high standards in FCT schools, ensuring they provide quality education in a conducive learning environment.
