Students in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been cautioned to avoid drug abuse and bullying to safeguard their future.

The advice was given at a sensitisation workshop organised by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCTA Chapel in partnership with the NDLEA and other stakeholders. The event, themed “Enhancing Public Awareness Advocacy on the Negative Impact of Drug Abuse and Bullying in Schools,” took place on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the FCDA Conference Hall.

Director of Information and Communication, Anthony Ogunleye, warned students about the dangers of drug use, stressing that breaking free from addiction is very difficult. He praised the NUJ for the initiative and revealed that more than 90 schools in the FCT are benefiting from ongoing renovation projects.

NUJ FCT Chairman, Grace Ike, described drug abuse as a serious threat to education and society, urging schools to adopt stronger zero-tolerance policies. NUJ FCTA Chapel Chairman, Ngozi Ufomba, also called on parents, teachers, and the media to intensify awareness and advocacy for safer schools.

The NDLEA reinforced the message with a live demonstration of different drugs and their harmful effects, witnessed by students from various schools, including Government Secondary School (GSS) Area 11.
