Abuja, Nigeria – September 25, 2025
Opposition leaders, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Minister of Communications Isa Pantami, gathered in Abuja for a strategic African Democratic Congress (ADC) meeting to plan ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The high-level session, chaired by ADC National Chairman David Mark, also featured Aminu Tambuwal, Abdulfatah Ahmed, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola. Discussions focused on insecurity, poverty, and coalition strategies to challenge the ruling APC.
Atiku said the meeting showed a “unified stand of Nigerians against those perpetuating poverty and insecurity.” ADC confirmed that the coalition has now adopted ADC as its official platform, urging Peter Obi, El-Rufai, and Tambuwal to align formally under its umbrella.
Analysts say the inclusion of technocrats like Pantami and regional leaders like Ahmed strengthens the coalition’s grassroots and youth appeal. The ADC bloc, first unveiled in July at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, continues to attract momentum as a major opposition force in Abuja politics.
