Vice President Kashim Shettima departed Abuja on September 21, 2025, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, held from September 22 to 28. Shettima is scheduled to deliver Nigeria’s address on September 24, focusing on peace, sustainable development, and the protection of human dignity.
He’s set to unveil Nigeria’s updated climate commitments under the Paris Agreement at a UN event and join Kenya’s President for a housing roundtable. Shettima will also promote Nigeria’s agenda in bilateral meetings, focusing on economic growth, security, and a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. Post-UNGA, he’ll swing by Frankfurt, Germany, to meet Deutsche Bank execs before heading home.
This marks Shettima’s second year running Nigeria’s UNGA show, joined by top officials.
