FCTA Marginalising Transport Workers – RTEAN Alleges

The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has called on the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to involve its members in the ongoing empowerment programme.

Speaking in Abuja, the FCT Chairman of RTEAN, Musa Saidu Zuba, said transporters have repeatedly asked for land to build and manage motor parks but have been ignored.

“The FCTA gives land to estate developers, school proprietors, public toilet operators and traders. But for our sector, they hand the parks to private developers and expect us to squat inside facilities owned by companies,” he said.

Zuba described the arrangement as unfair and likened it to double taxation, pointing out that major terminals in Nyanya, Area 1, Area 3, Beggar Junction and even the multipurpose terminal in Mabushi were all allocated to private developers.

While commending FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for his investments in infrastructure, he appealed to him to also tackle the shortage of bus stops and motor parks. According to him, the gap is forcing many drivers to operate illegally by the roadside.
