FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has rolled out a bold fix for 374 property owners in Abuja caught flouting land use rules, granting them fresh Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) and Statutory Rights of Occupancy (R-of-O) across 15 streets.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) spotted these owners tweaking their properties’ purposes without clearance, breaking their original R-of-O terms. Wike’s latest move, detailed in an FCTA notice, slaps a N5 million fine on each violator, due within 30 days from September 10, 2025.
Once paid, owners snag new titles with a 99-year lease, reflecting their updated land use. Properties previously yanked for sitting idle or unpaid ground rent don’t cut. Owners need to swing by the FCTA Land Administration Department at No. 4 Peace Drive, Central Business District, with their original titles and valid ID to grab their approval letters.
This shake-up is Wike’s push to stamp out rampant land use violations and keep Abuja’s master plan on track.
