Kubwa village in Abuja has been without power for two weeks after a messy clash with Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) workers. Locals say things got heated when some youths blocked AEDC folks from checking the community chief’s palace for shady electrical hookups, and it turned into a scuffle.

AEDC hit back by yanking the whole village’s power from the transformer. Resident Adamu Muhammad said begging at the AEDC office in Gbazango didn’t help; officials told them the chief, Bala Yakubu, needs to sort it out. Yakubu admitted the blackout’s real and said he’s trying to fix things.

Youth leader Buhari Abu ripped into AEDC for screwing over the entire community, pointing out that businesses are crashing and food’s going bad. An AEDC official in Gbazango confirmed the attack, saying they found tampered meters and unpaid bills going back over a year. The official mentioned that anyone with a clean payment record could get their lights back on, but villagers say they’re being told to sit tight until the whole mess is cleared up.
