FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike has urged security agencies in the G-7 states to intensify intelligence sharing and joint operations to dismantle criminal networks exploiting porous borders in the North Central region.
Represented by the FCT Head of Service, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, Wike gave the charge at the G-7 Technical Committee meeting in Abuja, stressing that kidnappings, banditry, and human trafficking now require coordinated and technology-driven responses.
The G-7 Security Forum, established in 2007, comprises the FCT, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kaduna, Benue, and Plateau States. At the meeting, security chiefs highlighted successes, including the arrest of Nasarawa kidnap kingpin Muhammad Tahir, with over ₦7.4m ransom recovered.
AIG Usaini Gumel, representing the IGP, and CP Ajao Adewale, G-7 Chairman, emphasized that joint strategies deliver far greater results than isolated actions. Major General Mike Alechenu also pledged military support.
Other officials raised concerns over insecurity’s wider impact, with FCTA education and women affairs secretaries warning that teacher abductions were worsening the out-of-school crisis in rural areas.
The Committee is expected to map out vulnerable areas and design tactical measures to reinforce regional security.
