The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has intensified the demolition of illegal shanties in Abuja, saying they have become hideouts for criminals and a threat to development.
The Minister’s aide, Lere Olayinka, said hotspots like Durumi and Area 1 are notorious for robbery, drug peddling, and carjacking. He revealed that recent raids led to over 120 arrests and the recovery of stolen vehicles, motorcycles, and ATM cards.
According to him, despite earlier demolitions, illegal settlers returned and rebuilt shanties on lands meant for government agencies and rightful owners.
The Minister, Nyesom Wike, has established a stakeholders’ committee involving security agencies and civil groups to continue the clean-up. “We will not allow criminals to take over Abuja,” Olayinka stated.Olayinka stated.Olayinka stated.Olayinka stated.Olayinka stated.
