The Construction and Civil Engineering Senior Staff Association (CCESSA) has voiced strong support for FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s infrastructure initiatives, while sharply criticizing Works Minister Dave Umahi for what it described as inadequate management of contractors.
Speaking at the union’s delegates’ conference in Abuja, CCESSA president Dr. Ayodeji Adeyemo described it as “contradictory” that contractors praised for quality work in the FCT were simultaneously criticized by Umahi’s ministry. He accused the Works Minister of disregarding dialogue efforts and called on him to embrace a more consultative approach.
Industry leaders at the event also warned that rising costs, foreign exchange fluctuations, insecurity, and delayed payments are pushing construction firms to the brink, threatening jobs nationwide.
The contrasting praise for Wike and criticism of Umahi underscored what union leaders described as uneven policies slowing Nigeria’s infrastructure drive.
