The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), through its Reform Coordination and Service Improvement Department (RC&SID), held the 6th edition of its Knowledge Café on August 7, 2025, to tackle delays in emergency response across FCT secondary hospitals.
Held at the HMB Complex in Garki, the forum brought together hospital heads, emergency responders, and health professionals to find practical solutions to emergency care challenges.
Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, Acting Director of RC&SID, cited a case where a patient died due to a delay in starting a generator, despite available oxygen and staff. She emphasized the need for urgency, coordination, and a responsive mindset across all hospital roles.
The Hospital Management Board Director General, Dr. Olugbenga Bello, and Clinical Services Director, Dr. Osayande Osagie, identified ambulance access and manpower shortages as major barriers to timely care.
Keynote speaker Mr. Maxwell Gabari urged health workers to know their rights when patients attempt to record emergency situations without consent.
The event ended with key resolutions, including enforcing health policies, expanding partnerships, training staff in emergency care, and digitizing emergency services. Public awareness campaigns and recruitment drives were also recommended to improve overall service delivery.
