
A 32-year-old man, Abdulganiyu Kabir, has been remanded by a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse, Abuja, for allegedly assaulting his tailor over a delay in sewing trousers.
The incident, which took place on July 22, resulted in Kabir being charged with physical assault, property damage, and obstruction of law enforcement.
According to the police, Kabir confronted tailor Ahmed Suleiman, physically attacked him, and ripped his clothing when his outfit wasn’t ready on time.
Matters worsened when officers tried to arrest Kabir at Trademore Police Station he reportedly resisted and headbutted an inspector, causing injury.
Although Kabir denied the allegations, his lawyer, Helen Akpala, appealed for bail, arguing he remains innocent until proven guilty.
The prosecution objected, describing Kabir’s behavior as a risk to societal peace.
Magistrate Abubakar Sadiq ordered that Kabir remain in custody and adjourned the matter to September 16, requesting a formal bail motion from the defense.
