The FCT Administration, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, has rewarded female participants of the 2024 “Every Home A Garden” competition an initiative by First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, aimed at boosting food security through home gardening.

At the ministerial engagement, Agriculture Minister Sen. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi announced that the programme will now be managed by the Ministry under the National Urban Agricultural Project, starting from 2025.

FCT Women Affairs Secretary, Dr. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, praised the participants, describing all as winners. Top contestants Hauwa Aminu, Victoria Obialor, and Pamela Ashiedu received cash prizes, while others got garden tools.

Beneficiaries showcased fresh produce including maize, spinach, pepper, and Jatropha (“hospital is too far”). A participant, Floxy Adaugo, shared how planting yams in sacks improved her meals and reduced expenses.

With 416 entries, Abuja led the nation in participation, earning accolades for transparency and strong support from the FCTA.
