The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has earmarked ₦300 million for scholarships in the 2024/2025 academic session to support pupils and students across Abuja. The announcement comes alongside the ongoing renovation of nearly 90 public schools in the territory.

The disclosure was made during a stakeholders’ meeting at the FCT Scholarship Board office in Wuse Zone 3, Abuja. Director of the Board, Mrs. Hanna Peter David, said the scholarship programme is focused on indigenes and indigent students, giving them access to quality education and opportunities for personal and economic growth.

She noted that application forms will be available for just five days, from September 29 to October 3, 2025, and must be collected in person. Fresh applicants will not be allowed to apply by proxy. David also advised candidates to always use their personal bank accounts for processing to avoid payment issues.

While praising FCT Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike for his investment in education, David urged individuals and corporate organisations to support the initiative. She highlighted that Wike’s reforms have already transformed Abuja’s education sector through infrastructure upgrades and improved school management.

Stakeholders, including student leaders and traditional rulers, welcomed the initiative but called for an increase in scholarship funding due to current economic pressures. Students also appealed for more slots to accommodate the growing demand.

The FCTA reiterated its commitment to ensuring that no child is denied access to education due to financial challenges.
