A suspected thief who attempted to steal armoured cables from a transformer in the Utako area of Abuja was caught and beaten by residents on Monday morning.
The incident happened along Usman Sariki Crescent near the Residency Hotel. Witnesses said the suspect was overpowered while trying to cut cables from one of the transformers in the area.
A security guard, Cletus Yusuf, confirmed the incident. He said the man was caught around 5 a.m. and beaten by residents before being left by the roadside with broken legs.
The suspect, in pain, reportedly admitted he had attempted to steal the cables before residents intervened.
It was not immediately clear if the police had taken over the case as of the time of filing this report.
